How does the Litbot literature finder work?

DocCheck Litbot ("literature robot") is an easy literature search of DocCheck Medical Services GmbH. All Litbot quick search services and search profiles fall back on the biggest medical database PubMed (formerly "Medline") with more than 14 million publications. Apart from a direct search via web search screen you can also save individual search profiles and subscribe to a regular eMail service sending you information on works on your favourite topics.

I do not want to receive any more search results. What do I have to do?

Please log in and deactivate or delete your search profile.

Which advantages do I have when subscribing to a DocCheck Pro password?

A valid DC Pro password enables you to use many useful additional options of Litbot Pro:
  • My Archives: Save relevant articles and export literature lists
  • My Favourites: Rate articles and collect your personal favourites
  • My Tags: Use MeSH terms and tags for individual groups of articles
  • RSS Feeds: Receive new search results easily via ultra fast RSS feed

What are RSS feeds?

You will never miss current search results when using a current browser (Internet Explorer 6+, Safari, Mozilla/Firefox etc.) or a free RSS reader. You will receive all new and relevant Litbot articles directly. In addition, the RSS format offers you further advantages on the Internet:
Advantage 1: You don't have to open numerous websites any longer to meticulously look for current and relevant information.
Advantage 2: Your inbox won't be spammed with irrelevant eMails.
Advantage 3: You can unsubscribe any RSS feed you're no longer interested in with just a single click.
Advantage 4: Most modern websites offer their news via RSS feed. Simply click on the RSS symbol:
Advantage 5: Choose your fields of interest and stay up-to-date with just one click:

  • Web Articles (DC Blogs)

Why do I need cookies?

A cookie has a small data volume that is saved by a browser and used by a certain website. Hence, cookies give some sort of memory to the browser to use the data given by the user for further sites. The literature finder uses cookies in order to remember your search profile while your are surfing on various sites of the application. No personal data will be saved. The information a cookie is saving will be saved on the user's local hard disk. As for the literature finder, however, only temporary cookies will be used and will be saved on the user's computer as long as the browser is open. Cookies merely help simplify surfing on websites.

How can I activiate cookies on my browser?

Safari:

  • Open Safari
  • Choose "Preferences"
  • Choose the "Security" tab
  • Activate the option "Accept cookies: always".

Firefox/Mozilla:

  • Open Firefox/Mozilla
  • Select "Options"
  • Select the tab "Privacy"
  • Activate the option "Accept cookies from sites".

Internet Explorer 6:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Select "Tools"
  • Select "Internet Options"
  • A window with an index card opens. Please select the tab "Privacy"
  • Click on the "Advanced" button
  • Check the box "Override automatic cookie handling" and choose "Accept" under "First-party Cookies".
  • Click on the "OK" button
  • Click on the "Accept" button, then click "OK".

Internet Explorer 4 or 5:

  • Select "Tools"
  • Select "Internet Options"
  • A window with an index card opens. Click on the "Security" tab
  • Click the "Custom level" button
  • Scroll down to the "Cookies section"
  • Activate the option "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer"
  • Activate the option "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)"
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Yes"
  • Click on the "Accept" button, then click "OK".

Netscape Communicator (Version 6 and higher):

  • Choose the "Tools" menu
  • Choose "Preferences"
  • In the category window, on the left, choose the category "Privacy & Security"
  • There will be a list right underneath
  • Choose the option "Cookies" from the list
  • You will see the cookie options on the right. Click on the button "Enable all cookies"
  • Click "OK" in the lower right corner

Netscape Communicator (up to Version 4.8):

  • Choose the "Tools" menu
  • Choose "Preferences"
  • Choose the option "Advanced" in the left window
  • You will see the cookie options on the right. Click on the button "Enable all cookies"

How can I enable JavaScript?

Safari:

  • In the active browser choose -> Safari -> Preferences -> Security
  • Check the box next to "Enable Java / JavaScript" a
  • Refresh the page afterwards
Firefox/Mozilla:

  • In the active browser choose -> Firefox -> Options -> Content
  • Check the box next to "Enable Java / JavaScript"
  • Refresh the page afterwards
Internet Explorer:

  • In the active browser choose -> Tools -> Internet options -> Advanced
  • Check the box next to "Enable Java JIT-Compiler"
  • Refresh the page afterwards

Netscape Navigator:

  • In the active browser choose -> Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced
  • Check the box next to "Enable JavaScript"
  • Refresh the page afterwards

How do I find fulltexts, which are available for free?

Free fulltext articles, which are available through the PubMed-Database, will be highlighted accordingly in the search-result overview as well as in the article-details. A link then leads you directly to the page, where you can download the article for free.

How can I order fulltext articles?

Order fulltext articles now! For many articles you are now able to order fulltexts directly. Where highlighted, you may order the selected fulltext articles through the delivery service of The German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED). A direct link leads you to the MEDPILOT order form. Please register for free, if you are entering MEDPILOT for the first time. Delivery Charges depend on the applicable user group, the requested processing deadline and the method of dispatch. Documents can be sent as copies by mail, fax, or in an electronic format via email or FTP.
